Day of the Endangered Lawyer

Observed every January 24, the Day of the Endangered Lawyer (DEL) is a global initiative dedicated
to spotlighting the dangers faced by legal professionals. It brings international attention to those
targeted with harassment, threats, or institutional pressure for simply upholding the rule of law.
Each year, the Coalition for the Day of the Endangered Lawyer selects a specic country as its focal
point, culminating in the publication of an in-depth report. For 2026, the Coalition has turned it’s
attention to the United States. This selection draw attention to the alarming use of executive orders
against law rms, alongside rising harassment and political retaliation. These factors threaten the
core of legal independence, prompting international legal bodies to organize events aimed at
safeguarding U.S. practitioners and the rule of law.

Advocacy for human rights has always been a cornerstone of the AEA-EAL’s mission. In line with this
commitment AEA-EAL constantly supports and promotes the initiatives of the Coalition.
