Dr. Kurt Gerd Weil, President of the Association Européenne des Avocats – European Association of Lawyers 1998 – 1999, died in April 2021.
He was an internationally recognized lawyer in Düsseldorf and a member of the International Association of Young Lawyers (AIJA), the International Bar Association (IBA) and the International Union of Advocates (UIA). In 1986, Kurt was one of the founding members of our association. As a very active member, he was one of the main organizers of the Colloquium in Portorož in1995 and of the Congress in Berlin in September 1998, at which he was elected as President. In 1999, he chaired conferences on Community Law in St. Moritz, the Summer Academy on European Business Law in Bruges and Trier, the Congress on Corporate Governance in Venice and a seminar on Banking Law in Frankfurt.
After the end of his presidency on 31 December 1999, Kurt remained a member of the AEA-EAL- Board of Directors until his death.
Kurt was a wonderful colleague and friend. We will miss his wise counsel, his contributions to international cooperation among lawyers and his humour.
